Bitcoin, the world’s first decentralized digital currency, has been making huge waves in the financial world. As more people adopt these digital “coins”, more businesses are starting to accept payments in Bitcoin, including some RV sellers.
RV dealers still mainly deal in traditional currencies, however, the tide is changing. As Bitcoin continues to gain popularity, more businesses are beginning to accept Bitcoin (BTC) transactions to purchase RVs! Currently, the list of RV sellers willing to deal in cryptocurrencies is small, but continues to grow; the list now includes dealers in the United States, Australia, and Europe.
So… What IS Bitcoin?
Before we discuss RV dealers that accept Bitcoin, we first need to understand what Bitcoin is.
Bitcoin is the world’s first decentralized digital currency. Created by the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009, this cryptocurrency is based on Blockchain technology.
In essence, the Bitcoin blockchain is a chain of “blocks”, these blocks are filled with data. This data contains every transaction ever to happen on the blockchain, complete with timestamps and digital “signatures”, like a ledger. Each block of data relies on every single block before it, so new information (like transactions) can be added to the blockchain, but there can never be any retroactive changes.
Unlike the current world financial system, the Bitcoin blockchain is completely independent of centralized banks, or any governmental institution; Instead, it is a widely distributed, peer-to-peer system, without any central authority, which relies on a completely transparent peer-to-peer network, without the ability to defraud the system.
At its inception, 1 Bitcoin (BTC) equaled $0.003 (USD). At the time of this writing (March 2021), 1 BTC equals $55,463. Unlike traditional currency, BTC and other cryptocurrencies can be purchased as fractions of a “coin”. So, if you can’t afford one full coin, that’s ok! You can purchase “pieces” of digital currencies! To see the current price of BTC, see it on CoinDesk here.
If you’re new to the idea of cryptocurrency, this might have left you scratching your head…
To get a really good grip on Bitcoin, its implications, and why more people are starting to hop on the “crytpo” bandwagon- like Tesla’s Elon Musk, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg- watch this video:
Where Can I Buy an RV with Bitcoin?
(Make sure to do your due diligence before making any BTC purchases with any person or company.)
Once you have some Bitcoin in your digital wallet (through an exchange like Coinbase or a “hard wallet” like the Ledger Nano), you’re ready to go out and shop for an RV!
Currently, using Bitcoin for financial transactions isn’t as ubiquitous as traditional forms of currency, however, more people, dealers, and businesses are starting to accept cryptocurrencies. With that said, let’s take a look at a few online RV sellers that are willing to wheel and deal in crypto.
Camping World
One of the most recognizable names in the RV industry, Camping World recently announced (2021) their move to begin accepting Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and a number of other cryptocurrencies as payment for RVs!
Riding alongside Tesla’s March 2020 announcement that Bitcoin is now being accepted for purchases, Camping World is speeding in to the new digital economy. Camping World is betting on cryptocurrency purchases making online sales easier and more convenient for both the company as well as customers: Less paperwork, less hassle.
Camper Agent
Camper Agent is another RV dealer that’s started accepting Bitcoin as payment for campers and trailers. This Australian company has a wide range of RVs on the lot from: Avida, Newlands, Paramount Caravans, Concept, and Lotus.
This seller has every kind of RV, including camper trailers, motorhomes, regular vehicles (to attach a trailer to), pop tops, and campervans. Prices range from $15,500 to over $315,000 (AUD). BuySellCarWithBitcoin.com
Much like Craigslist, BuySellCarWithBitcoin, is a website for buyers and sellers to meet on an online marketplace. Buyers can search make, model, and price point for the desired vehicle. Unfortunately, the number of campers and RVs available is unreliable, as there is no storage lot; Prospective purchasers are at the mercy of however many sellers are parting with their RVs at a given time.
Tesla
One of the world’s most famous auto manufacturers, Tesla recently announced (2021) that they will be accepting Bitcoin as payments for their vehicles, trucks, batteries, and solar kits.
While it’s true Tesla doesn’t sell RVs (yet), the auto maker’s vehicles can tow camper trailers! Car model pricing starts around $32,000 USD, and goes up over $173,000, depending on amenities added.
If you’re thinking of purchasing a Tesla to tow a camper trailer, make sure to check the tow weight capabilities of the Tesla, and the dry weight of your camper; Make sure the vehicle can accommodate the trailer’s heft while towing it down the highway.
